Reduction Linocut
Creating a reduction linocut is as it sounds. The idea is to cut the image into art specific linoleum and build up the image in numerous printed layers, reducing the printed area each time you add a new layer.
I generally print starting with the lightest colour first, working my way through various tones to build up the image layer after layer.
Again, my starting point for these prints is my own imagery and photography. The end result is not photo-realistic but more of an interpretation of the subject.
I find the process challenging and also informative. Figuring out where to cut for the layer you are working on and imagining how it will look when printed is the challenge. I also really enjoy the carving of the plate and the pulling of the print at each stage.
